What is a Financial Plan?

A financial plan is a list of short- and long-term goals that are important to you, with an outline of how you're going to use your money to achieve those goals. It is not about getting rich, it is about doing more with what you have.

A well thought out plan can help you to enjoy today, save the money you need to realize your goals, plan for retirement, and manage your taxes. You may already be doing some basic planning right now if you are setting financial priorities each month, paying your bills, and working to lower your debt.

Why do I need a tax plan?

The objective of personal tax planning is to minimize or defer income taxes payable. There is legislation within the Canada Revenue Agency that may allow you to significantly decrease the amount of tax you pay both now and in the future. We can help you identify these money saving areas through discussions about your life and circumstances.

How are you different from a Bank representative?

Many of the personal banking services offered by your local bank are in place for one reason only - to make the bank money. They have their own lines of insurance, mutual funds, and consolidation loans. What we can offer is an unbiased opinion on what products or services would benefit you most. You can be assured that the products and services we suggest to you are the right ones for you and your situation.

I have a will, what else is there to plan?

Everyone should have a strategy for leaving property to loved ones and that is what a will is for. However, you should also have a plan for minimizing the impact of federal and provincial estate taxes. We can help you plan ahead to ensure that more of your hard earned assets go to your chosen beneficiaries and do not go to the government by default.
